Chapter Ten

We made it to the ER in record time thanks to my crazy fast driving. I drove straight up to the ER ambulance entrance, grabbed a wheelchair and helped Mark into it and into the ER. “This is my friend, he fell and was unconscious for a while we are not sure how long, he needs to be seen.” I tell the admitting nurse. After sitting in the ER for a couple of hours while they scanned and examined Mark for all possible injuries, he was sent home with a concussion and luckily no broken bones. I assured the doctor that he would be going home with me and that I would watch him carefully over the next few days and make an appointment to see his own doctor in a week for a follow up. I told Mark on the way home that there was no way I was going to take him back to my house after what had happened to him and that I would be taking him back to his house where I would stay with him there. I just need to stop by my house and pick up some clothes and toiletries. I did not actually want to go back there but I had no choice, I needed clothes for the next few days. I drove up to the front door left Mark in the car. I ran in the house, up the stairs and into my bedroom and threw clothes and toiletries in a bag and ran back out of the house. I didn’t feel safe until I was about a mile down the road. The unnatural chill that had settled over me was fading with each mile that I drove away from that house. God, what am I going to do with that house? I am scared to live in that house and now it hurt someone I love badly.

As soon as we arrived at Mark’s house he gave me the code to get into his large, four car garage. It would be easier getting him into the house from the car that way. I got him into the house and comfortable in bed and sat down and let out a huge sigh of relief. Thank God he’s ok and it wasn’t worse like it could have been. It could have most certainly been worse and in the back of my mind I knew that it would have been my fault. I knew that house had something bad there but I never expected it would attack and badly injure someone other than me. What had I done? “Whatever you are thinking stop it! It wasn’t your fault.” He said. “I don’t blame you for anything.” He said. He sat up in bed and very carefully pulled me to him and just held me. “I love you Sarah, and it’s my job to look after you and support you and love you.” He said looking at me straight in my eyes. “I love you Sarah.
